Caroline Creek Bivouac upgrade summer 2017/2018

A new hut for the Waiau Valley...

Good news for all Te Araroa trampers....the dilapidated two person bivouac at Caroline Creek on the Waiau Pass route is being replaced with a new hut over the summer of 2017/2018.

There is an article in the October Wilderness magazine detailing how $300 000 has been donated for a new hut to replace the totally inadequate bivy which exists in the area presently.

I imagine it will be like the Poulter Hut which is the standard 10 bunk DOC hut design .

This is great news as a hut is badly needed at this location.

Update 2018:

The hut was completed in January 2018, it is named Waiau Hut and is located in an area of bush approximately 4 km's further down the Waiau Valley from Caroline Creek Bivouac. The hut is a standard DOC 6 bunk design.

This is the same design as used at Magdalen Hut in the Lower Boyle Valley and numerous other spots around the country.
